Our relics very clearly depicts the benefits of herbs and local practices in management of common ailments. The holistic approach inherent in herbal medicine, often utilizing multiple plant constituents, continues to retain its significance especially in ethno veterinary practices adopted by the local folks. This system of treatment has perpetually represented a crucial element of primary healthcare in remote villages where people still rely on age old practices. But with advent of new pharmaceutical agents, these package of practices became extinct and got lost with time.
At a time when world is increasingly concerned with the side effects of conventional veterinary medicines and their entry into the food chain, ethnoveterinary practices offer a timely and sustainable solution. These practices, often rooted with local wisdom and natural resources, have proven their worth over generations as cheap, safe and effective alternatives to conventional treatments with fewer negative environmental impacts.
