Menstrual-related evidence is extremely delicate and challenging to collect in emergency departments, especially those dealing with sexual assault cases. This chapter reports the best practice in recording and handling menstrual hygiene products and other forms of menstrual-related forensic evidence in sensitive and comprehensive ways. Techniques for preserving integrity, respectful communication with patients, and the training necessary for trauma-informed care among emergency department staff are discussed. By taking an examination through protocols and case-based examples, this chapter is helpful to ensure forensic accuracy and patient-centered care together.
