Positron emission tomography is useful in diagnosis, staging and follow-up of various malignancies. PET scan works on the basis of abnormal metabolic activity in organs which may not show morphological abnormality. Hauer introduced the technique of subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery. He used a single port to perform the surgery. O’Donnell was the first to use laparoscopic instrumentation with a two-port technique. SEPS became the technique of choice for perforator ablation between 1992 and 2008 because of the reduced rate of wound complications. MRCP is based on heavily T2-weighted images to impart a very high-signal intensity to fluid containing structures such as the gall bladder and bile duct, contrasted against a low-signal intensity background. With currently available MRCP images non-dilated intra and extrahepatic bile ducts can be identified routinely. The demonstration of biliary tract is not dependent on bilirubin levels and hence can be used in obstructive jaundice. Lasers are devices that emit a single, coherent wavelength of electromagnetic radiation that is used to cut, coagulate, or ablate tissue for a variety of clinical applications.
