Abstract

The integration of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has emerged as a groundbreaking advancement in medical imaging, offering complementary strengths in a single system. PET provides functional insights by measuring physiological processes, while MRI excels in anatomical visualization with superior soft tissue contrast. Together, PET-MRI enhances diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning across various clinical fields, including oncology, neurology, and cardiology. This hybrid imaging modality allows for simultaneous acquisition of both datasets, improving spatial resolution, motion correction, and quantitative analysis. Key challenges include hardware compatibility, electromagnetic interference, and achieving optimal image fusion. Nonetheless, ongoing advancements in detector technology, software algorithms and radiopharmaceutical development continue to push the boundaries of PET-MRI. Future directions involve enhancing resolution, incorporating artificial intelligence, and expanding clinical applications, making PET-MRI an indispensable tool in personalized medicine and multi-parametric imaging for a wide range of diseases.
