Women are the backbone of developing countries like India. The women's part in any society ensures nation's stability, progress, prosperity and long-term growth. The role of women in agriculture varies from country to country. The word 'Empowerment' has its own importance in women's development. It makes women to identify their own potential, available opportunities and resources along with decision making capacity in order to use their power effectively. Almost 37 per cent of rural women are cultivators and 50 per cent of them are agricultural labourers. Rural women involve in innumerable agricultural activities such as sowing, weeding, irrigation, plant protection, harvesting etc. along with men in field. Generally, Women force are major contributor in farming as well as non-farming activities. Their contribution ends with production aspects alone, either may be Agriculture or Livestock. Special focus and emphasis to be fine tuned on Processing, Value addition, Marketing, Exports etc. Reaching of credit facilities and insurance to women force is very minimal. Livelihood programmes are weak in addressing the poverty in our nation and especially for empowering women. So, policy framing needs to be developed. Training, Technology education and Government services reaches them minimally. It needs to be refined and revamped through joint and collaborative effort among mainstream institutes. Therefore, Government initiating various schemes and providing services to farm women for their empowerment. Empowerment in the sense, it includes physical empowerment, socio-economic empowerment, educational, political and spiritual empowerment. Not only Government, but also several civil societies, Non-Governmental Organizations, other voluntary organizations and stakeholders also playing a vital role in improvement of women in agriculture. In the above ways of creative ideas and efforts, standard of living of women and their family is increased crucially over the years. Even though women are well developed personally in several manner, still they need to improve in education, having constraints of family restrictions, lack of social mobilization, freedom in taking decisions, ego problems with men folks etc. Therefore, Women empowerment is still not completely fulfilled and these pending constraints has to be cleared from all walks of women's life. This will increase overall development of the country and gender differences will be erased and replaced by gender equality.
