The practice of moonlighting gained attention especially during the pandemic. Additionally, a lot of little tasks that didn't demand full-time involvement and had the potential to increase someone's income were accessible because of the nationwide lockdown. Moonlighting has generated significant discussion in the business and employment sectors too. While some criticize it as unethical and a violation of contractual responsibilities, others embrace it as a young, low-paid professional's right to supplement and diversify their income. The work-from-home business model has fostered moonlighting among white-collar professionals in a number of nations, including India. This has led to compliance issues inside firms and sparked debate about whether this would become the new norm for the gig economy in the future. The industry is said to be split between traditional businesses that are opposed to the idea of moonlighting and openly forbid it and newer businesses that are embracing the evolving nature of white-collar work as long as there is no conflict of interest and the employee's productivity is unaffected. This book chapter attempts to highlight one of the contemporary issues in today’s business world that is known as moonlighting with its concept, challenges, legal views and ethical concerns related to it.
