Abstract

In this chapter, most focus is given to Patterns in formation enthalpy attempt to express an outline of periodic patterns in inorganic compound thermodynamic properties with some of the more common rationalisation schemes like size and electronegativity of element with describe the patterns in compound energetics by observations on the kinetics of compound formation, periodic patterns in the enthalpy of binary compound formation and alloys and intermetallic compounds. Rationalization schemes for compound energetics by rationalization of acid-base, considerations on atomic size, rationalization of electron counts and microporous material's volume effect. Patters and rationalisation schemes in solution energetics by strain versus electron transfer in solid solutions, gases solubility in metals, redox energetics and non-stoichiometry and solutions in liquid form.
