Abstract

Gajoldoba Barrage was constructed in 1976 for irrigational and recreational purpose. This barrage connects the river Mahananda with the river Teesta with the help of man-made Teesta feeder canal. This barrage in the river Teesta inhibits the fish migration of many Himalayan migratory fish species. Two migratory fish such as Tor putitora and Neolissocheilus hexagonolepis changes its route from the river Teesta to Mahananda and Ambari Barrage. This diversion of migration reduces the competition among the migratory fishes.
