Present study is based on the strategic review on occurrence of the jellyfish bloom along India and Odisha coast. Few of the notable findings related to the cases of jellyfish swarming along Indian coastline have been delineated due to the anthropogenic activity and climate change. Study deciphered that blooms of jellyfish usually seen in the estuarine regions, port areas, sewage outfall sites in the sea and the regions of manmade structures on the nearshore as well as offshore provinces. Influence of seasons on occurrence of swarming is also found as an important governing factor. Months in which often bloom is marked are from April-May and October to December. Oceanographic parameters such as current, tide and wave action, climatological conditions followed by unprecedented rainfall found as the most crucial to form bloom. Spatio-temporal heterogeneity of the different physio-chemical parameters in general and nutrient dynamics in particular also makes significant contribution. Recent emerging anthropogenic issues such as eutrophication, marine plastic pollution etc are also responsible more or less contributory to make bloom. Study also observed that frequent swarming of jellyfish makes severe loss to socio-economic aspect since; it is associated through decline in the capture fisheries in the seas and oceans. Simultaneously, many reports are also available regarding tourists and the fishermen being affected by the jellyfish tentacles while exposed into the coast and in the sea. Therefore, present study strongly recommends for the development of the jellyfish based research program in long term.
