The fruits consumption is vital for everyone’s survival and healthy lifestyle. The demand for fruits is increasing every year. And specially during the covid-19 pandemic the demand of fruits increased as people were at homes and tried to follow healthy lifestyle to boost up their immunity and fight with the virus. But to grow the fruits there are many factors that are required to reach to the end consumer in a good form such as transportation facilities, storage wherever possible, minimum post-harvest losses and many more. The land of Himachal is favourable for horticulture as it has the diversity of topography, climatic conditions, as well as fertile, deep and well drained soils that favour the cultivation of temperate to sub-tropical fruits. It is known for its orchards and no wonder why it is known as ‘fruit bowl of India’ so the major focus was on the study area of fruits. The study has specifically focussed on the corona virus pandemic time as the conditions at that point for all the sectors were not good to make profit in their respective areas. Some businesses were in losses and overall, it is reported that in agriculture sector net returns were very low during that time. It is one of the biggest contributors for fruit production in India. Out of all fruits, apple holds the majority of share in fruit production and hence, it is known as “Apple state” of India. Covid-19 pandemic also affected the fruit production in Himachal which is being shown in the paper. Producers faced too many problems in the production during the pandemic due to which the whole supply chain disrupted. They made less profit or no profit because they faced debt issues too at that time. There was shortage in the labour who were having expertise in handling large orchards of fruits which made losses as well. Some other major problems were also faced by farmers which are being discussed in the paper. Due to these problems the production of fruits during covid-19 went down by approximately half from the previous year which is the major concern here. Some suggestions are being given which can be adopted as strategies to tackle the problems in fruit sector if any pandemic arrives again. Digital platform is the new tomorrow which can be linked with this sector to combat the problems in a major way.
