Off season flowering in JasmineOff season is defined as the period between the end of the main season and prior to the start of the next year’s competitive season. In Jasminum sambac, the crop produces good yield during the months starting from March to August. The prices are higher during religious auspicious days, Tuesday and Friday of the week. The flower production is reduced during cooler months leading to hike in price during December-March which is almost ten times higher than the remaining part of the year that can be termed as “off season” in jasmine cultivation. The flower production is significantly influenced by seasons and weather conditions. The plant’s environment can be specified by five basic factors viz., light, temperature, relative humidity, carbon dioxide and nutrients. In J. sambac cv. Single Mogra, reported that flowering was peak during March-May and declined thereafter with no flowering between October to January. By pruning different plants at six-month interval staggered flower production could be achieved in this cultivar. The farmers fetches premium price during off-season rather the normal flowering season.
