Abstract

Vanda tessellata is a perennial herb that grows epiphytically and usually grows on the trunk of some particular trees. It is an endangered orchid that is very effective in curing several kinds of diseases viz., brain tonic, in dyspepsia, bronchitis, inflammatory reactions, piles, problem of hiccups etc. Various articles from numerous databases were studied exhaustively and in this duration number of effective articles and manuscripts were found which is a prime requirement for the creation of this manuscript. Orchids are renowned not only for their ornamental significance, but also, for their therapeutical importance. This species constitutes 33 potent active constituents as per the GC-MS profiling of the plant sample which gives the noteworthy evidence to prove this plant as a potent source for pharmaceutical applications. This orchid is among promising species which holds potential to reduce inflammation, potential to act as anti-nociceptive, analgesic, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agent. V. tessellata also act as aphrodisiac, anti-oxidant, anti-convulsant, anti-ulcer and an efficient neuro-protective agent. The current review is therefore, an effort to provide a comprehensive literature survey on the therapeutic properties of V. tessellata.
