We have contrasted the room-temperature Zero Field NMR (ZFNMR) signals of bulk cobalt with Carbon Encapsulated Cobalt Nano powder (CECN). Since bulk cobalt is known to exist in two phases-Face Cantered Cube (FCC) and Hexagonal Close Packing (HCP)-two pairs of NMR signals are therefore seen in bulk cobalt. Currently available ZFNMR observations show a single pair NMR signal in CECN that solely correlates to the FCC phase. Powder XRD results for the FCC phase in CECN have further supported this. This study unequivocally demonstrates how important preparatory techniques are in defining the CECN phase. Keywords 59Co IFNMR; Cobalt; CECN; RF enhancement.
