Potato is an important crop of North Eastern India comprising of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura and grown round the year in all the seasons. In North Eastern Hill (NEH) region of India the potato is grown under rainfed conditions. In Arunachal Pradesh potato grown in the winter season i.e. rabi season and planted from mid-October to mid-November. Potato is a temperate crop and prefer well drained sandy loam soils which are well suited for higher yield. It prefers a pH ranging from 5.5 to 6.5. Potato yield is highest when daytime temperatures are about 24 °C for vegetative growth and 20 °C for tuber development. KVK Namsai conducted On Farm Testing (OFT) and Front-Line Demonstration (FLD) of four high yielding commercial varieties, viz., Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Garima, Kufri Bahar and Kufri Megha and they performed better than local in terms of productivity, resistance to diseases and resulted in high B:C ratio.
