To meet the needs of growing population legume inclusion is an alternative strategy due to their positive impacts, such as biological nitrogen fixation, carbon sequestration, weed suppression, erosion control as cover crop, soil health improvement and most importantly towards the eradication of malnutrition in third-world countries. Legumes can provide a multitude of benefits to both the soil and other crops grown in combination with them or following them in a rotation to improve soil quality. Therefore, these crops can contribute to achieving the objectives of sustainable food and environmental security.
