Agriculture is an important sector of Indian economy as it contributes about 15% to the total GDP and provides employment to over 60% of the population. Over 70 per cent of the rural households depend on agriculture which in turn is monsoon dependent. In the present context of climate change, vagaries of monsoon and unprecedented climatic events, agriculture sector became more vulnerable, uncertain and high-risk occupation. This made spiraling effect on the rural livelihood and agriculture sustainability. In this scenario, integrated farming system remains as best option to overcome the above-mentioned challenges.
