Abstract

Vegetable crops play important role in human regular diet. There is wide range of variation among the plants within a same species. Recent changing of climate there should be a change of the vegetables so that they can cope up with the environment. So create a new variation in a vegetables would be desirable. Mutation, are sudden heritable change in a genetic material of an individual organism. Mutation breeding plays important role in vegetable crops. Among the different approach of breeding method, mutagenesis and improved phenotypes in conjugation with conventional breeding programmes can be result in mutant varieties endowed with new and desirable variation of agronomical traits. The phenomenon of mutations do occurs naturally caused by natural phenomenon like UV-rays and cosmic rays. But the rate of spontaneous mutations is very low (10-6) as compared to the induced mutation. So mutation breeding is solely based on the induced mutations. The use of various agents to induced mutation that makes the higher frequency rate. Complete planning of the program is must have effective screening facilities. The breeder should have the knowledge and breeding behaviour of the crop and its genetic nature of the selected character. In collaboration with new genomic analysis technologies, mutation breeding application finds in many situations.
