Background and Aim: Junk foods are rich in calories, salt and fats. Excess consumption of junk foods would lead rise variety of health disorders mainly obesity among young age such as college and university students. The aim of the present study was to know about junk food consumption patterns of students and their impact on human health mainly the influence to being overweight. Subjects and methods: Self-administered questionnaire were used to collect the data. A cross sectional study was performed on the age group of 18-23, college and university students. For this study as a sample population and total sample size was represented by 100 students.
Results: The analysis showed that 80% respondents are aware about consequences about junk food nevertheless 50% of the participants are overweight. Females are more vulnerable for obesity than male. Out of all over population both males and females 50% of the students are overweight. Based on this study it was found that 62% of the respondents take junk food as an alternative of breakfast and evening snacks and most of them prefer junk food for its taste and variety some of them also consider they influenced to choose junk food for the changing life style, we also found that frequency of junk food consumption may vary on the weight status of individuals those who consume junk food three times or more a week are majorly being overweight and the socioeconomic status also Influence junk food consumption like those who belongs to upper class, upper middle class and middle class are more likely to choose junk food consumption.
