Abstract

The naturally occurring bioactive substances in plants known as phytochemicals have attracted a lot of consideration because of their possible health advantages. Flavonoids, carotenoids, polyphenols, and glucosinolates are among the many different types of fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, and herbs that contain these substances. Research has shown that phytochemicals have a variety of health-promoting benefits, mostly due to their antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antioxidant qualities. Through their ability to neutralise free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, and modify important metabolic processes, phytochemicals help shield the body against chronic illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. They also help to cure the skin and eyes, boost the immune system, and enhance cognitive performance. Thus, the consumption of foods high in phytochemicals is a crucial tactic for improving quality of life, avoiding illness, and increasing general health. To effectively use the therapeutic potential of phytochemicals, it is vital to include a range of plant-based foods in one's diet.
