Green manuring's value in crop production has been recognised since antiquity. Because of the high expense of chemical fertilisers, the rising risk of environmental pollution, and the necessity for sustainable farming systems, its importance has risen steadily in recent years. When a green manure crop is ploughed, it takes nutrients from the lower layer and leaves them on the surface. Green manuring, on the other hand, can boost soil fertility and, as a result, crop production. Green manuring is a low-cost solution for reducing fertiliser costs as well as maintaining productivity. Nitrogen fixed in a green manure crop is not a “free” source of extra N, but it can be an effective choice for particular cropping systems, such as organic crop production.
