In soils, most of the soil Sulphur is present as sulphate esters or as organic Sulphur rather than inorganic sulphate. The major source of Sulphur in the soil is Sulphur containing minerals like galena (lead sulfide), gypsum, sphalerite etc. Thus, the fixation of sulphur is largely dependent upon the microbial activity, type of soil, climatic condition. As we know Sulphur is one of the major secondary nutrients which is essential for plant growth especially in oilseed crops like Sesame, Groundnut, Mustard, Soybean etc. and it is important to constitute some amino acids like Cysteine and Methionine and some vitamins like vitamin B-1 i.e., Thiamin, Biotin etc.
