Iron is one of the most abundant elements in soil but it cannot be taken by plants in its present form. It is required in a very small amount and is classed as a micronutrient or trace element. It is necessary for the development and function of chlorophyll and very important for a range of enzymes and proteins. It has major role in respiration, nitrogen fixation, energy transfer and metabolism. With other nutrients plants can have too much of it but it affects uptake of other nutrients rather it produces direct toxic symptoms.
