Abstract

Fertilizer use has not only provided additional nutrients and energy to cropping systems but has also supported a steady increase in annual crop production. Studies have shown that the use of fertilizers accounts for about 40-50% of the total increase in yield for most crops. Plants need to be fertilized because most soils do not provide the nutrients needed for optimal growth. Given the pressure to both increase yields and improve the environment, a new strategy is needed that focuses attention on improving the efficiency of fertilizer use by combining fertilizer use with advanced science and technology, improved crop production management, and a favorable policy environment to support farmers. Considering that most cropping systems, especially in India, need to be intensified with high fertilizer use. In short, customized fertilizers are multi-nutrient carriers that allow the full range of plant nutrients to be applied in the right proportions to meet the specific requirements of a plant at its growth stages. They are unique and ready-to-use granular fertilizers formulated based on sound scientific principles of plant nutrition incorporating soil information and extensive laboratory studies and evaluated through field research. (Rakshit et al., 2012). CF’s can maximize the efficiency of nutrient utilization and is ultimately programmed to improve soil fertility. Therefore, they fall under the category of eco-friendly fertilizers (Rao and Rahman, 2011). The customized fertilizer may contain a combination of nutrients based on soil tests and crop needs and the formulation may consist of primary, secondary, and micronutrients. It is time to incentivize farmers who use 100% water-soluble fertilizers to ensure the quality of their products, which can be used in a balanced form and maintain soil health. The conclusion is that farmers who use customized fertilizers do not have to buy different fertilizers or worry about the number of fertilizers to be added.
