Abstract

Climate change does not impact all the individuals with a same magnitude. Different sections of the society experience it differently. The sections of the population which are more dependent on the natural resources for their livelihoods are hit very hardly. In the same manner men and women of the planet experience the adverse effects of climate change differently. Women experience the adverse effects of climate change in very huge way than men experience it. This book chapter deals with socio economic impact of climate change on women and tries to elucidate the factors that make women more vulnerable to climate change. This books chapter stresses the importance of women’s participation in decision making at grass root level in combating the climate change. Contribution of women in combating climate change is also explained with few examples from the contemporary world.
