Background: Academic Performance is the level of percentage or GPA obtained by the students in each semester. It also includes the research output and skill-based achievements. Recent years have seen a vast number of young adults migrating to other countries for higher education. Various reasons have led to a decline in the overall quality of academic performance in India as compared with the other countries where the students migrate. Aim: To find the reasons and compare the status of academic performance of Indian university students at the global level. Methodology: Exploration and review of the latest findings from various journals of different databases and thesis repositories like Scopus, PubMed, shodhganga and Google scholar. Discussion: The academic performance of Indian university students is low, compared with the students of the Western world. Various psychological factors like anxiety, resilience, motivation, procrastination, stress, and self-esteem play a role. Social factors depend upon the teachers along with school and college authorities. Conclusion: To conclude, there are various psycho-social reasons responsible for the current status of the academic performance of Indian university students at the global level.
