Human rights are the basic rights which ensure equality; freedom and dignity to every person born into this world regardless of any sexual orientation and gender identity. An individual’s sexual orientations and gender identity whether homosexual or heterosexual are natural and inherent aspect essential for self identity and wellbeing. The rights of homosexual people have been evolved but the discriminations, prejudice, negligence are still persists around the world despite the fact that homosexuality is inborn and was prevalent from ancient times. Unlike contemporary India, ancient India not only acknowledges sexual minorities but also celebrates their presence while providing all people with support and dignity. Those dignity, support and respect that homosexual people enjoyed earlier had become deviant in contemporary society. Even though homosexuality is now legally recognized after the Supreme Court’s judgment in 2018, the current laws and regulations still have flaws and limitations that prevent them from fully enjoying their rights. As we joyfully commemorate our 75th anniversary of independence and welcome a new age of development, it is depressing to realize that we have not yet completely embraced the LGBTQIA+ community, which still faces prejudice and discrimination in everyday life.
