Abstract

Introduction: The adherence to recommended hand hygiene practices by healthcare personnel, measured by the frequency and accuracy of hand washing or use of hand sanitizers in accordance with established guidelines is called hand hygiene compliance. The observational study on hand hygiene compliance and thermometer sterilization will evaluate the effectiveness of current practices in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Aim: To Observe and evaluate the correlation between healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and infections resulting from improper hand hygiene compliance and inadequate sterilization of used thermometers. Materials & Methods: Direct observational study conducted in the surgical and medical intensive care unit of tertiary care hospital in Vadodara, Gujarat The data of patients admitted in the intensive care units of the facility including SICU (surgical ICU), MICU (medical ICU) showing signs and symptoms of various HAIs after confirmed diagnosis is used to show a positive correlation between the said HAI strain and it’s finding. Implications: This study will provide valuable insights into hand hygiene compliance as well as thermometer sterilization and its impact on patient safety by understanding microbial transmission pathways between staff and patients.
