Intent-Based Networking (IBN) is a revolutionary networking paradigm that aims to simplify network management, improve automation, and enhance overall network performance. The paper explores the potential integration of Intent-Based Networking (IBN) principles in ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) missions to enhance data collection, real-time decision-making and overall operational efficiency. By leveraging IBN's automation and intent-driven features, ISR operations can experience increased agility, scalability and network assurance, ensuring optimal resource allocation and improved security. The study illustrates the application of IBN in practice and its effects on data processing, adaptive routing and incident response. It centers on a drone-based ISR scenario. The study highlights future perspectives, such as the integration of AI and machine learning and how IBN can be broadened to meet multi-domain ISR operations in addition to highlighting the advantages, drawbacks and factors of IBN in ISR.
