Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) offers the potential to create a global network of "smart devices" that can sense and interact with their environments, as well as with users and other systems. One of the most critical challenges today is the issue of global air pollution, which has steadily worsened due to factors such as population growth, increased vehicle usage, industrialization, and urbanization. These factors directly impact human health by degrading air quality through the release of harmful gases. Current air quality monitoring systems suffer from limitations such as low sensitivity, imprecision, and the need for laboratory analysis, which restricts their effectiveness in real-time applications. To address these shortcomings, we propose an IoT-based pollution monitoring system capable of real-time air quality analysis and reporting. The system will display air quality in Parts per Million (PPM) on both an LCD screen and a web interface, enabling easy monitoring from remote locations via any internet-connected device. The system will trigger an alarm if pollutant levels exceed a predefined threshold, indicating a hazardous concentration of gases like carbon monoxide (CO). The proposed solution integrates MQ7 and DHT11 sensors to detect harmful gases and measure temperature and humidity with high accuracy. This three-phase monitoring approach enhances sensitivity and precision, addressing the limitations of existing systems.
