Liver is the vital organ that metabolizes nutrients and excretes metabolites. Liver also controls the safe flow of the nutrients from gut into systemic circulation. A complete failure of liver could lead to death in a short period of time. One of the main complications which cause liver failure is excessive alcohol consumption. As liver is the prime site of ethanol metabolism, it faces the highest degree of injury by uncontrolled drinking. Severe alcohol use produces a broad spectrum of hepatic diseases; it mainly includes hepatosteatosis, hepatitis, fibrosis and cirrhosis. Pathogenesis of Alcoholic Liver Diseases (ALD) can be explained by hepatic lipogenesis, deceleration of hepatic lipid breakdown, defective hepatic lipid export, and macrophage induced alcoholic hepatitis (AH), Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) transport into hepatic blood stream, Malondialdehyde and acetaldehyde (MAA) adducts formation and hepatocyte stellate cell (HSC) induction. There are no specific symptoms which relate to alcoholic hepatitis (AH), a collection of symptoms might help to diagnosis AH with sensible accuracy, the main symptoms include oxidative stress, interruption of hepatocyte metabolism, inflammation of liver, changes in the restoration process and misplacement of bacterial byproducts from the gut into the hepatic portal blood circulation. The diagnostic studies of ALD are generally concluded based on medical history, clinical and laboratory conclusions. But, the diagnostic study of ALD can be difficult as there is not a single test that would confirm the disease. In earlier days Glucocorticoids, Pentoxifylline, TNFα were used in the first hand in treatment of AH, alone or in combinations. Recent studies have suggested novel methods by using Metadoxine, Caspase inhibitors, Modification of the Microbiome, Microbial Phage Therapy, and liver transplantation. These have their own advantages when compared to conventional therapies. These methods of treatments are prescribed to be combined with addiction psychiatrists, social work, and family counselors. Recent studies have confirmed that AH can be prevented by consuming capsaicin on daily basis, which ultimately reduces the global burden.
