Abstract

Recurrent pregnancy loss presents a multifaceted health issue lacking a universally accepted definition. The precise causes of recurrent pregnancy loss remain uncertain, categorizing it as a condition influenced by multiple factors, both modifiable and non-modifiable. Despite comprehensive evaluations of the causes and risk factors associated with recurrent pregnancy loss, approximately 75% of cases still have no identifiable explanation. This chapter seeks to consolidate and critically assess the existing knowledge regarding the aetiology, risk factors, diagnostic methods, and management strategies related to recurrent pregnancy loss. The diagnostic and treatment approaches are largely determined by the underlying aetiology and risk factors identified by healthcare professionals for the individual woman or couple. The failure to fully appreciate the social and health ramifications of recurrent pregnancy loss can adversely affect the reproductive health and psychological well-being of women following a miscarriage. Continued research into the aetiology and risk factors of recurrent pregnancy loss, particularly those that are idiopathic, is necessary.
