Migraine is a neurological disorder: millions of people are affected by this disorder in various parts of the world, and it is at the forefront in seeking effective and accessible treatments. Fresh studies have underlined an active possibility in herbal ingredients such as ginger, chamomile, and lavender for relief against migraine symptoms. Ginger has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and, therefore, is considered to reduce migraine attacks in their frequency and severity. Bioactive agents such as gingerol and shogaol block the release of pro-inflammatory substances, which mitigate pain in the headache. Chamomile is used for its relaxing effect; it has flavonoids, which reduce inflammation and result in sedation. It helps in soothing the triggers of migraine. In addition, it is antispasmodic and can be used to alleviate tension around the head and neck muscles. The next review highlights these herbs used in the treatment of migraine. New evidence suggests that ginger, chamomile, and lavender are promising natural alternatives or supplements to conventional medications in an integral treatment approach. As research is still unfolding, these herbal medicines may play a key role in mitigating migraine. This study thus encourages further investigations of the therapeutic potential of herbal ingredients in the treatment of migraine. (Thilinie Rajapakse, 2019)
