This comprehensive analysis explores the dynamics of the Dalit movement in Karnataka, with a particular focus on the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) and its historical evolution since the early 1970s. Led by the DSS, the movement has significantly impacted the social and political landscape for Dalits in Karnataka and beyond. Pioneering efforts challenged entrenched Hindu beliefs, providing a renewed sense of optimism for Dalits in the state. Scheduled for completion in 2020 and presentation in 2021, the research aims to shed light on the multifaceted aspects and difficulties of the ongoing Dalit movement in Karnataka. The structured format of the analysis encompasses a literature review, research methodologies, the historical context of the Dalit movement, and the formation of the DSS. Detailed examination follows, outlining the DSS's key actions, internal challenges, and the intersection of race and gender within the Dalit movement. The analysis concludes with observations of recent signs suggesting a resurgence of DSS activities, potentially paving new paths for the Dalit movement in Karnataka's future.
