Abstract

In the current global agricultural scenario, invasive insect pests hold great socio-economic and ecological importance as they have risen significantly worldwide over the past two centuries due to the high intercontinental human-mediated interactions and rise in global warming. Although there are many ways to fight against invasive insect pests, none of them was proven as a universal remedy. Therefore, there necessitates an “International Management Approach” with strict legislation laws and better cooperation between the countries regarding exchange of genetic information of invasive insect species and their natural enemies. Hence, the use of molecular and genomic tools will overcome this problem by facilitating our understanding of the genetic makeup of individuals. The growing availability of genomic tools is advantageous for the production of alternative methods for control of invasive insect pests. Moreover, the precise identification of recently invaded or newly developed invasive species populations is important for their complete eradication, where genomic techniques helps in understanding invasive pests invasion and their adaptation. Effective control of invasive insect species by genetic modification and use of DNA markers in phylogenetics, phylogeography is important for identifying invasive insects and their incursion routes.
