Indiscriminate use of synthetic chemicals leads to the three sad R’s (Resistance, Resurgence and Residues) and it also enters the food chain and lead to bio-accumulation and bio-magnification. To avoid or minimize the constraints of synthetic pesticides, use of bio-pesticides remains as best as well as comprehensive option. Bio-pesticides include pest control agents of biological origin, microbial agents, pheromones/semiochemicals, biological control agents, botanical pesticides and transgenic crops of which only botanical pesticides are easily available to the farmer for use.
