Seeds are important for plants as means of regeneration and to humans as the primary basis for nutrition. Each seed contains an embryo which is usually formed by sexual reproduction and thus is the means by which a new individual is dispersed, playing a crucial role in the life history of higher plants. The biological and economic relevance of seeds make it evident that it is of significant importance to conserve them and, hence, to conserve biodiversity.
