The launch of this scheme in 2006 resulted in increase of women's participation in MGNREGA. This programme has given opportunity to unskilled workers mainly women by providing 100 days of wage employment and also giving priority that one third of the beneficiaries shall be women. As a result of MGNREGA, women's wages rose in both the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors. The women participation rate in 2021-22 has been increased when compared 2020-21 i.e., 53.19 to 54.54 percent. When compared to 2020-21 there is drop of 61.60 crore women person days in the year 2019-20 due to outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic as government has ordered the people to reside in their respective native places. In India, Kerala is having the highest rate of women person days and Jammu and Kashmir is having the lowest rate of women person days in the year 2021-22. The highest wage rate is from the state Himachal Pradesh i.e., 331 Rs. per day and the lowest is from the state Chhattisgarh and Manipur i.e., 204 Rs. per day in 2021-22.
