Abstract

Garlic has various pharmacological properties due to the sulphur containing compounds that it possesses. These are used since time immemorial for treating diseases or infection in human and animals. The intensity of curing or inhibiting action depends on the type of solution used to prepare the garlic extract, such as, aqueous or ethanol or as well oil based. On the other hand, the preparation process such as fermentation and ageing also alters the property of the compounds and their activity as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory or antioxidant. Garlic plant is important to prevent the growth of different microorganisms in the body and so that it can pose an antimicrobial property. It plays an important role to maintain different types of diseases such as blood sugar level, cholesterol level and it tries to maintain the cardiovascular condition. Garlic contains different kinds of chemical components that helps the garlic to exert antimicrobial effects. Garlic can reduce the growth and developments of microbes hence it cannot kill the microbes. It can lower the activity of microbes so that it cannot cause any harm to human body. Garlic is cultivated throughout the south East Asian country and it requires favourable environment for further growth.
