Abstract

Lavender flowers stands for freshness, peacefulness, godliness, serenity, charm and tranquillity. Lavender plant is perpetual flowering sweet scented herb that belongs to Lavandula genus, which is indigenous to northern Africa and the upper hilly regions of Mediterranean for its flowers and extraction of oils. In India, it is raised in low rainfall terrains and on slopes of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Nevertheless, it is effectively grown in Kashmir valley region. Lavender oil chiefly composed of 40% Linalyl acetate and 30% a linalool. Terpene alcohol and acetate ester of linalool have properties of antimicrobial activities and supply a notable worth to the lavender. Other contents of the oil are cineol, pinene, limonene, geraniol, borneol and some quantity of tannin. It is a boon to cosmetic industry in addition to this, it has been successfully proved that lavender reliefs from anxiety, insomnia, depression, menstrual pain, headache, healing of wounds, muscle relaxation and pain after surgery. Current research by the researchers claims that the lavender oil is fruitful in treatment of hair fall, vomiting, nausea, intestinal gas, upset stomach and abdominal swelling.
