Tinospora cordifolia (Guduchi/Giloy is an herb which has pharmacological functions and medicinal qualities because it contains several components like terpenes, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids and steroids. The plant medicine Gilo (Tinospora cordifolia) is frequently utilised in the Unani system of medicine (USM) for a variety of therapeutic purposes. At 600 metres above sea level, the species is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions. It can be found in North Africa, South Africa, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Borneo, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It is a large growing bush with long, sweeping branches that intertwine around each other. A distinguishing characteristic is the existence of prickly underground stems that emerge from the branches. It functions as an antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and has the potential to treat diabetes. Tinospora cordifolia commonly named as “Guduchi” is known for its immense application in the treatment of various diseases in the traditional ayurvedic literature. The overall plant is considered pharmacological properties and has been utilised for many years in both traditional medicine and Ayurvedic medicine to treat a range of ailments. This review article focuses on the plant's cultivation and medicinal properties, such as its anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-AIDS, antiulcer and anti-diabetic properties. Therefore, this plant is also called as Amruta which means nectar because of its divine healing properties.
