Technology transfer is a multi-level process of communication involving a variety of senders and receivers of ideas and materials. As an effort to accelerate market-driven social change, technology transfer may combine public and private apparatus or rely solely on public institutional mechanisms to identify, develop, and deliver information in terms of skill and knowledge. Technology transfer plays a role beyond technology dissemination and group formation but include addressing vulnerability and poverty, environmental issues, enterprise development and networking with other stakeholders. Skill and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development for any country. People with higher and better levels of skills adjust more effectively to the challenges and opportunities encountered during the process of development. Empowerment of women is regarded as a sine-qua-non of progress for any country and economic empowerment of women leads to development of family and community, hence the issue of economic empowerment of women is of paramount importance to social scientists. Considering the above points an innovative technology transfer process experimented and found successful at Assam Agricultural University, India. This paper aims to draw attention to an aspect of technology transfer process with three interactive phases with key actions and indicators and that can shape its potential benefits in terms of sustainable development of the clientele receiving it and show how the process of diffusion of ‘technology ‘change in the attitude, knowledge and skill leading to adoption of the technology and economic empowerment of rural women for sustainable development.
