Parenting is that prepares children to meet the demands of the specific culture or subculture in which they live. Parenting style refers to the normative patterns of behaviour and practices that parents use to socialize and control their children.
According to Baumarind (1971) there are three types of parenting styles
1) Authoritarian
2) Authoritative
3) Permissive
The aim of the present study was to know the relationship between the parenting styles and behaviour of pre-school children. Tools used were Parenting Style Questionnaire (PSQ) (Swaroopa Rani and Anuradha, 2016)) and Behaviour Problems Check List (Anuradha and Bharathi, 2004)). The sample were pre-school children who were studying in Govt and private schools of Kadapa and Tirupati towns. The children studying in eight pre- schools (5 Govt and 3 Private) in two districts were identified randomly and thus 30 girls and 30 boys and their mothers constituted the sample. Results of the study revealed that mothers did not differ significantly in exercising of parenting style according to their education but differed according to their occupation. The mothers who were doing Government jobs were found to be adopting less authoritarian parenting styles when compared of mothers who were doing private jobs. It was found that the children whose mothers were adopting authoritative parenting style had exhibited low behaviour problems
