Amoebiasis is a major health problem worldwide. It is third most common parasitic cause of death in the world after malaria and schistosomiasis. Pulmonary and pleural tissues are second common location of extraintestinal amebiasis after amoebic liver abscess.
The reasons for misdiagnosis and late presentation of the disease are not only limited to illiteracy, poverty, lack of awareness, and lack of social support but also because we have limited diagnostic methods and poor exposure of clinicians for the extraintestinal amoebiasis. In developing countries, infection with E. histolytica is usually neglected and marginalized
We reported a rare case of pulmonary amebiasis complicated by right sided pneumothorax and multi cystic empyema without hepatic involvement.
