Abstract

The gamma radiation exposure to public in dwellings of 10 different locations of Bengaluru city was studied. The main objective of study was to understand the gamma radiation levels in different rooms of dwellings and its seasonal variations. The study has shown that higher concentrations of 222Rn, 220Rn and gamma dose were observed in bath room, bed room whereas lower levels were observed in living rooms. The season wise variations show that highest levels were found in winter season as compared to other seasons. The volume wise (room) variations were studied and found that higher concentrations were observed in lower volume room than in the higher volume room. The correlation between concentration and volume is more than 90% in all cases and envisages that there is a direct dependence of concentration with volume.
