Nematodes are one of the most difficult organisms to be identified, due to their small, microscopic sizes or due to the difficulties in observing key diagnostic characters/features under conventional light microscope. And also there are differences in some of the morphological and morphometric characters which may have overlapping characters or sometimes show intraspecific variation which leads to improper identification or erroneous identity of the species. Furthermore, identification of nematodes using classical morphology need well trained and experienced nematode taxonomists who are in decline these days because of lack of interest of young scientists in classical taxonomy. A huge step towards nematode identification has been the use of biochemical and molecular diagnostic tools such as the enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), isoelectric focusing (IEF) and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
