Cardamom is an important spice crop which is well known for its culinary purpose in Indian cuisine. Cardamom is used as flavoring ingredient in the preparation of a drink called ‘Khawa’. Cardamom has many medicinal properties and is used in treating asthma, diarrhea, nausea, oral infections, digestive disorders etc. Cardamom is available in two main types-small and large types. Cardamom prefers cool humid climate with heavy rainfall. Under such conditions, cardamom is prone to various diseases among which fungal and viral diseases posing prominent threat to their production. In the present chapter, a brief view on fungal diseases like capsule rot, rhizome rot, nursery leaf spot, leaf blight, etc., viral diseases like Katte disease, Kokke Kandu disease, Chirke disease, Foorky disease, etc., and their integrated management including cultural, biological and chemicals methods are presented.
