Many social researchers measure multidimensional variables, such as community participation, group dynamics, community mobilisation by aggregating the scores of individual dimensions or sub-dimensions. These dimensions or sub-dimensions are highly correlated and have inherent problem of multicollinearity which causes attenuation in measurement. In fact, community participation, group dynamics, community mobilisation are multidimensional variables, whereas it is being measured as if it was a uni-dimensional variable. In this book chapter more emphasis was given on approaches to create perceptual maps, basic concepts of Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) like similarity judgments, preference rankings, stress, R-square, spatial map, coordinates and procedure of conducting Multidimensional Scaling, evaluating the MDS Solution with its advantages and disadvantages. It also emphasises on various applications of MDS with Non attribute Data, assumptions, challenges, advances and limitations of MDS in Social Science Research.
