Abstract

Chrysanthemum is a short span of flowering during the peak season causes glut in the market. Therefore, to meet the demand for flowers in the market during early and late seasons, some techniques needed to stabilise prolonged flowering. Photoperiod and temperature manipulations have been used to regulate flowering of several crops. Growth retardants have been used to induce the flower characteristics of chrysanthemum. Maleic hydrazide, daminozide, paclobutrazol and dextral were tried and proved to be effective in enhancing the flower size, flower yield, stalk length, number of flowers and vase life of chrysanthemum in addition to its impact on vegetative characteristics such as plant height, internodal length, number of branches and leaf area.
