Packaging of vegetables plays a fundamental role in reducing and preventing waste generation. It reduces post-harvest losses in vegetables. Proper packaging of food is important as it effects the quality and shelf life. Edible packaging is a novel food packaging technique which promotes quality of vegetables. It is environmentally sustainable form of packaging. Edible Packaging is nothing but a food wrapped in a food. Edible packaging obtained from natural biopolymers is an best alternative to synthetic packaging due to their edibility and biodegradability. As vegetables are highly perishable, edible packaging is useful in improving the shelf life and maintaining quality by acting as protective barrier between food and the environment. Edible packaging forms will become an essential strategy for reducing the post-harvest losses in vegetables therefore have the potential for increasing profit.
