Plant growth regulators (PGR’s) are chemical compounds that can be applied to plants to regulate their growth and development. PGR’s can influence plant growth by affecting cell division, elongation, differentiation and development. During last few years, research work has been done in various aspects (such as varieties, irrigation, propagation and fertilizers etc.) to increase the production and quality of vegetables but poor quality of produce is common experience. PGR’s can be used to induce flowering, increase fruit set, reduce fruit drop, enhance fruit size, colour, and improve post-harvest quality and shelf life. Some commonly used Plant Growth Regulators include auxins, cytokinin, gibberellins, abscisic acid and ethylene. While plant growth regulators can be useful tools for boosting crop production and quality of vegetable crops.
